European Parliament ENVI Committee to vote on report on the Drinking Water Directive

The European Parliament Environment Committee (ENVI Committee) - responsible for the Revision of the Drinking Water Directive – is expected to vote on its amendments to the Commission proposal on September 10, 2018.

MEPs from different political parties have tabled several amendments asking for full harmonisation of hygienic rules on all materials and products in contact with drinking water.

Following the ENVI Committee vote, the European Parliament Plenary is set to vote on the ENVI Committee report in October. At that point, the European Parliament will be ready to enter negotiations with the Council (EU national governments) to agree on a compromise text that, once formally adopted by both EU institutions, will finally become EU law.
