EDW present at European Parliament event on the Revision of the Drinking Water Directive

On June 11, MEP Karl-Heinz Florenz (European People’s Party, Germany) and the German Federal Environment Energy (UBA) organised an event in the European Parliament to discuss the Commission proposal on the harmonisation of drinking water applications.

Volker Meyer (Chairman of the European Drinking Water Industrial Alliance - EDW) said,

“The Commission proposal to harmonise rules on materials and products in contact with drinking water through standards under the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) will not bring harmonisation”.

In line with the position of several EU Member States and trade associations, Volker Meyer supported setting hygienic requirements under the Drinking Water Directive, which would apply to all materials and products in contact with drinking water - unlike the CPR that does not cover a significant share of products (e.g. pumps, water meters, water heaters, hoses, gaskets, etc.).
